There is a difference between loneliness and solitude, you don't have to even be alone to feel lonely. Some of the times I have felt the loneliest in my life is when I have been surrounded by people but they either weren't the right people for me, or I wasn't comfortable with myself. Solitude on the other hand, is the choice to be alone and to use that alone time to reflect or simply enjoy your own company. It is about enjoying being with oneself rather than wishing to be with someone else.
